Located in the shadow of Ganesh Himal, Ruby valley Trek shows for one of the most eccentric views of the Ganesh Himal (7,422m), Langtang Lirung (7,234m), Bouddha Himal and many others. Ruby Valley is named after the deposits of the Gem Ruby found in the area and although the extraction and availability are not that popular, the trek to this hidden and uncharted area has become more and more popular among the Nepalese and foreigners alike.

Not only the view of the mountains, hills, and forest, we will also be acquainted with several local Gurung and Tamang people. Their unique culture and lifestyle is something that is interesting to watch and learn. Similarly, we will also witness the vast grasslands and the silent and violent rivers as we take on this uncharted journey.

Overview

From the awe-inspiring beauty of nature to the brilliantly crafted culture, this trek is like no others. This trek to the Langtang region has become one of the most sought trekking destinations in the area. With the ethnic settlements in the area along with the rich and unique tradition, the amalgamation of nature and cultural importance that this trek holds are truly amazing. With the snowcapped mountains to the lush green forests, this is a must trek for all trekkers and nature lovers. Located between the Langtang National Park and Conservational Area, this trek enables us to view the exquisite waterfalls, wildflowers and various wildlife in the area. There is also a lake called Kalo-Set-Kunda which translates into Black and White Lake that is fed by the glaciers.

We start off this trek by driving to Syabrubesi– which lies north of Kathmandu. Then we will enter the protected Langtang National Park, the gateway to the Langtang Valley and to the Ruby Valley. From there we will trek to Pangsang Pass (3,842m) the highest point of the trek and the major attraction of this entire journey. The Ganesh Himal Range is easily visible. The area has some of the best viewpoints from where we can see the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. We can also visit the hot springs and relieve our body and mind of stress and fatigue. This has also become increasingly popular among the trekkers. From there we will trek to Darkha Gaun and then return back to Kathmandu.

As with every other trek in the Langtang region, the best time to travel is either Spring (March-May) or Autumn (September – November). Although other time of the year can also be used to trek around the harsh climate of the winter and rainy will provide many hurdles to your trek.

This is an easy trek so this is a perfect trek for Novice trekkers. The highest altitude is 3,842m so the probability of altitude sickness is rather low. The trails are not difficult and you can enjoy the scenic nature and culture without much difficulty. However, the more advanced trekkers will not be disappointed either. With the variation and diversity in nature, land, and wildlife, this trek is a must for all.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Kathmandu

This day, you will arrive in the capital of Nepal – Kathmandu via Tribhuvan International Airport. You will then be transported to your hotel. Upon our arrival, you will be briefed about the trek. Considering the time of your arrival, you may have ample time on your hand to stroll around the city. The nightlife around the Thamel area is also something to look out for. No meals included.

Day 2 :

Kathmandu – Syabrubesi (1,550m)

Right after the breakfast, we will drive to Syabrubesi. This will be a long drive, but by no means, a boring one. Throughout the long drive, we can enjoy the beautiful countryside. The availability of the wide grasslands, occasional waterfalls as well as the rural villages will keep you company. You can also see the majestic and mountains coming closer and closer. Reaching Syabru we can stroll around the market and stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 3 :

Syabrubesi – Gatlang (2,337m)

This day we start our trek. We trek through the dirt trail and move uphill to Bahun Danda Pass. There is a slight descent to Chawatar. Few stretches and we reach the village of Gatlang. Gatlang is home to the Tamang settlement with excellent craftsmanship and due friendliness. There is a sacred bond nearby called Parvati Kund which we can visit. We stay overnight at a lodge. 5 hours of walk. BLD included.

Day 4 :

Gatlang – Somdang (3,271m)

Early morning breakfast and we go our way. First, we head uphill towards the pine and Rhododendron forest to Yuri Kharka. Then we ascend to Khurpu Bhanjyang. After that its downhill again to Somdang Khola. Through the rocky trail, we reach Chuakarma waterfall. Going straight we will reach Somdang village with the excellent view of the surrounding terrain and the exquisite mountains. The spectacular Ganesh Himal and Mt. Manaslu can be viewed in their full might. 5 hours walk. BLD included.

Day 5 :

Somdang – Tipling (2,078m)

The early morning view of the surrounding mountains and the blissful sunrise is something to behold. We enjoy the scenery and get on our way. We trek down to the Laptung village. Then, it’s the lush Rhododendron forest and through Phyang village we reach Tipling. There are two ancient Buddhist monasteries in the area as well two Churches. Since Tipling is a Tamang village, we can enjoy their unique dances which are said to have been inherited from Tibetan culture. We stay overnight at a lodge. 5 hours of walk. BLD included.

Day 6 :

Tipling – Chalish (1,674m)

We continue our journey downhill and reach the Simlya Village which lies alongside the bank of river Kululu. Passing the village, we cross a long suspension bridge. After that we will descend further and reach another village – Chalish Gaon. This is a Gurung village. We will have a lot of time in our hand to enjoy their tradition, culture, and lifestyle. Overnight stay at a lodge. 4 hours of walk. BLD included.

Day 7 :

Exploration in Chalish

Chalish is one beautiful village. We can see the rich culture of the people who inhabit this lively village. This is a good day to interact with the local village and observe their unique culture. Local women tie bits of their clothing near a small pond surrounded by the periwinkle flowers. They believe that if they do this their wish will be granted by the gods. BLD included.

Day 08 :

Chalish – Darkha gain (850m)

We start by descending down to Lishne River. After that, we carry on to Percoh with the view of the Ankhu Khola, Chyamchat and the snow clad western peaks at the distance. We move alongside the river and reach Darkha Gaon. We stay overnight at a lodge. 5 hours of walk. BLD included.

Day 09 :

Darkha Gaun – Kathmandu

There is not much trekking this day. We first descend downhill to Dhading Phedi. We will take a local jeep and reach Dhading besi. From here we will drive back to Kathmandu. Through the window, we can witness the Ankhu River as well as the aesthetic villages on the backdrop of the magnificent scenery. We will reach Kathmandu by evening. You can stroll around the city and even purchase some souvenir to take back home. If you have enough time, it will be a good opportunity to enjoy the nightlife of Kathmandu for the last time in this trip. However, if you are tired you can just take a bath and get a well-deserved sleep back in the hotel.

Day 10 :

Departure from Kathmandu

This is the last day of the journey and you will be transported to the Tribhuvan International Airport depending upon the time of your flight. You will probably have to wait for few hours in the Airport but you will do so while remembering the exciting week you had in the mountains.
